Innovation within the Rotationsguss industry often stems from collaboration and knowledge sharing. Companies in our sector regularly exchange hands-on experiences and share insights on new techniques and technologies. One of the key trends today is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in the production process. At Pentas, we’ve been leading in this field for two years now, and we recently shared our experiences at the international IT-RO trade fair in Italy.

AI applications at Pentas: results and insights

During IT-RO, which took place on May 15 and 16, Marthijn Koorn and AI specialist Sander Staal represented our company. They presented to industry peers from across Europe how Pentas uses AI technology to make the Rotationsguss process smarter and more efficient. A key part of the presentation included practical examples of vision models we use to provide real-time insights into production processes.

Our systems use advanced AI based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) framework, which analyzes and interprets live video footage. These systems support operators not only at the ovens but also during the post-processing of products. By detecting anomalies instantly, performing safety checks, and providing immediate feedback, we ensure that our processes are faster, safer, and more accurate. This has led to measurable improvements such as a significant reduction in rejection rates and shorter cycle times.

Marthijn and Sander also discussed the use of a digital production assistant during their presentation. This assistant allows managers and operators to access real-time insights into machine performance and workflows through a simple ChatGPT interface. This enables them to make swift decisions and work more effectively on improvements.

    Future vision and next steps

At IT-RO, we not only showcased our current AI applications but also shared our plans for future developments. Pentas is working on expanding AI applications, such as an interactive digital assistant on the shop floor. This assistant will guide employees step by step through complex assemblies and post-processing tasks, helping us achieve even higher quality and efficiency.

We are also exploring how AI can be used for advanced capacity planning, predictive material usage, and predictive maintenance. All these innovations aim to continuously improve our production processes and maintain our lead in quality and efficiency.

    Inspiring exchange at IT-RO

The IT-RO trade fair provided us with a valuable platform for in-depth knowledge sharing and international collaboration. The enthusiastic responses to our presentation confirm the broad interest within the Rotationsguss sector for concrete AI applications and practical innovations.

We look back on a successful and inspiring fair and thank all attendees and organizers for the valuable conversations and insights. At Pentas, we remain committed to collaboration and knowledge sharing as we take new steps in technological innovation together.
